My Ride Injuries: Cycling Discomfort to Painless Riding

Disclaimer : Some of the experiences and remedies called out in this post could be specific to me as a individual and mustn't be generalized. Intention of this post is to provide some leads around self diagnosis and not suggest solutions. Please attempt to understand mechanics thoroughly before attempting anything.  The worst of the bicycling discomforts came my way when i decided to switch from SPD to SPD-SL. I was always in a dilemma on whether to switch from SPD to SPD-SL given that there weren't any great leads that depicted significant tangible benefits from this transition. Anyways, i decided to make the switch. My bike fit was done on SPD pedals and i decided that i would move to SPD-SL with the same bike fit and try and address the niggles myself as i use the pedals and get accustomed to it. Often i hear negativity around using google towards learning. But, for some of the niggles, i always believed that as far as i am able to read enough and understand the mechan...

Chennai Ironman Triathlon - The Journey

Image
Now that I am out of the state of ecstasy that followed the completion of Full Iron Triathlon at Chennai organized by Chennai Trekking Club, just thought of sitting back and articulating the Journey that culminated in breaking the 226.3 Km (140.6 Miles) barrier. To set the pitch, let me start with a bit of my background. My involvement in any form of activity or sport has been very recreational in nature all the way till Jan 2018 and I was neither athletic nor tried to be one till then. Perhaps, it continues to be recreational with just a tinge of passion in Tri-Sport now. At the beginning of 2018, I had about 10 years of swimming acquaintance behind me with me being able to swim about 1500 m in 45 minutes without screwing my heart out. Had always liked cycling in childhood but my rendezvous with some serious cycling started when I was stripped off my driving license in 2012 in US because of my passing out in the middle of the night at home and having got admitted in eme...

Ironman Santa Rosa – The Journey

I am writing this post with mixed feelings and conflicting emotions. While I am excited that I got to hear those sweet words – “Sravan Kumar, you are now an Ironman from India” as I crossed the red carpet (or was it black  😊 ), I am equally regretful that things really didn’t work out as planned in the event. I will stick to similar pitch as my last  write up  and will try to focus more on the journey rather than the destination itself, starting from Full Iron Distance at Chennai on Dec 17, 2017 all the way to Ironman Santa Rosa Finish line @Old Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa, CA on May 12, 2018. For those interested in my Journey to Chennai Full Iron distance, it is available @ https://sravanimsr.blogspot.com/2018/08/chennai-ironman-triathlon-journey.html After basking in the ecstasy of having completed Full Iron Distance for about 4 to 5 weeks, I started preparations for Santa Rosa in the middle of January 2018 with intent to improve my swim and run legs. The goal...
